The Sonata carries over mostly unchanged from the 2018 to 2019 model year, but in case you don't know what that looks like, we'll get you up to speed (pun intended!) For 2018 the Sonata was restyled inside, outside, and mechanically. For 2019 you'll still get the updated suspension that handles nicely, as well as three engine options.

  • 2.4L with 185 horsepower & 178 lb-ft torque
  • 1.6L with 178 & 195 lb-ft torque
  • 2.0L Turbo with 245 horsepower& 260 lb-ft torque

If you tend to do a lot of solo or one-passenger driving then either the 2.4L or 1.6L will be fine, but if you'll have kids out back — or simply like having more power when you press on the pedal — then go with the larger turbo that provides more grunt for easier passing and can better handle the extra weight.

Standard Equipment

The Sonata is available in many trims (SE, Eco, SEL, Sport, Limited, Sport 2.0T, and Limited 2.0T) With such a vast lineup you have a lot of flexibility to get the features and technologies that you want. However, if you're looking for a car to take back to your home in Westminster know that you don't have to get a top trim to get a ton of features; the Sonata is well-equipped at all levels!

Even if you choose the Sonata SE you'll still great standard amenities. For convenience features there is a 7-inch touchscreen, and to take it step further you can choose to use Apple CarPlay™ or Android Auto™ smartphone integrations! Instead of getting used to Hyundai's infotainment system — which is still very user-friendly — you can see your familiar iPhone or Android icons on the screen.

A backup camera and Bluetooth are expected on most vehicles, especially ones in the Sonata's class, so what can you get for standard advanced safety technologies? A lot! When we hit on the individual trims we'll touch on all the technologies, but we're excited to point out that all Sonata's come standard with blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane change assist! Whether you're driving in busy Long Beach, in a parking lot, or taking the backroads home, you can feel extra confident behind the wheel of your Sonata.

Trim Configurations

SE: along with some of the standard highlights we mentioned above, the SE also has automatic headlights and power-folding side mirrors so you don't get accidentally nicked. For style you get a chrome exhaust tip and the cabin has metal grain accents.

Eco: the Eco edition is the same as the SE, but instead of a 2.0L engine you get the 1.6L with more torque in relation to horsepower.

SEL: the SEL gets a lot of features, including a 10-way power-adjusting seat that can be heated, a proximity key with push button start, a helpful hands-free trunk, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. During the 2018 model year there was a mid-year update which brought onboard the following —a mesh sport grille, heating for the steering wheel, and Qi wireless charging pad!

Sport: the Sport gets a dual chrome-tipped exhaust, sunroof, and comfortable sports seats that have a mix of leather and cloth. Rounding out the finishing touches is a leather-wrapped flat bottom steering wheel and paddle shifters. Like the SEL, the Sport also got the same mid-year updates.

Limited: enjoy heated and ventilated leather seats, LED lights with dynamic bending for seeing around tricky corners, and sophisticated wood grain trim. Passengers also get the luxury of power-adjusting their seats too.

Sport 2.0T: not only does this trim get a stronger engine, but you also get a sport-tuned suspension, larger brakes, and 8-speed transmission. If you demand performance from your sedan then you'll love this option!

Limited 2.0T: last, though certainly not least, is our the most jam-packed trim. Enjoy the larger 8-inch touchscreen, as well as the 3-year complimentary subscription to Hyundai's Blue Link guidance package. This trim also has a host of advanced safety technologies which you can get on other trims but come standard with the Limited 2.0T. There's automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high-beam assist, and smart cruise control with stop/start capability.

If you want a little more flexibility, most of the trims come with a package that lets you add on either convenience amenities, technologies, or safety features!
